• President Park Geun-hye says reunification of the Korean peninsula will further strengthen Korea-U.S. alliance.
This comes before the announcement of a joint declaration against Pyongyang's nuclear threats.
President Park also hinted that a Korea-Japan summit could take place on the sidelines of trilateral talks between Korea, Japan and China.
The focal point of discussions will be Japan's wartime sex crimes.
After another rejection from the U.S. on transfering technologies crucial to Korea's fighter jet project, Seoul may focus on developing the technologies at home.
Good to have you with us at this hour.

S. Korea, U.S. to adopt first joint statement against N. Korea's nuclear weapons program
In just a few hours, President Park Geun-hye and President Barack Obama will hold their fourth summit in Washington.
Our Hwang Sung-hee, who is travelling with the president, takes a closer look at the possible agenda items at the summit.
Dealing with North Korea's nuclear ambitions will top the agenda at Friday's summit between President Park and President Obama.
The presidential office of Cheong Wa Dae said Thursday the two leaders will adopt a joint statement on North Korea's nuclear weapons program.
It will mark the first time Seoul and Washington release a statement solely on Pyongyang and is meant to show the two leaders' determination about the issue.
The statement is expected to contain countermeasures against North Korean provocations, such as a fourth nuclear test, as well as ways to resume the long-stalled 6-party nuclear talks.
On the economic front, the two allies may discuss South Korea's possible joining of the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
Throughout her trip, President Park has expressed Seoul's willingness to join the 12-nation multilateral trade pact that includes Washington and Tokyo.
Another agenda item will be expanding cooperation on global issues, such as climate change, cybersecurity and violent extremism.
The U.S. has shown great interest in these so-called "New Frontier" areas and the two allies are expected to lay out detailed measures for bilateral cooperation.
"With the summit and a joint press conference with President Obama, President Park will wrap up her four-day stay here in Washington and depart for Korea later this Friday.
Hwang Sung-hee, Arirang News, Washington."
Pres. Park hints at possible summit talks with Abe
President Park hinted at the possibility of a summit with Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe... on the sidelines of trilateral talks between Korea, Japan and China set for later this month or early next month.
The key agenda will be Japan's acknowledgement of its wartime sex crimes.
Song Ji-sun tells us more.
Speaking at a Q-and-A session following her speech at the Center for Strategic and International Studies forum..., President Park Geun-hye said she hopes the upcoming trilateral summit with Japan and China will serve as an opportunity to mend Seoul-Tokyo relations.
On the sidelines of that summit, slated for sometime in late October or early November, President Park said she is willing to sit down with Abe... saying it would be meaningful if progress is made on the issue of Japan's sexual enslavement of Korean women before and during World War II.
"I hope that this trilateral summit will provide an opportunity for Korea and Japan to clear away obstacles hindering closer bilateral ties and thus hold sincere discussions on the way forward toward a common future."
The two leaders have yet to hold a summit... as bilateral relations remain at a historic low due to Japan's denial of its wartime atrocities.
In response to President Park's latest remarks... Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said that the two sides should discuss the matter on multiple levels - hinting a slight change in Tokyo's stance towards the issue.
Kyodo News also reported that Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was quoted as saying Tokyo WILL hold bilateral summits with Seoul and Beijing on the sidelines of the trilateral talks... which will take place for the first time in three and a half years.

U.S. refuses S. Korea's request for transfer of fighter-jet technology
Washington told Seoul it is difficult to permit the transfer of four core technologies crucial to Korea's indigenous fighter jet development project.
Despite the setback,... the South Korean military says there are other ways to develop the necessary technology.

Korea's Defense Minister Han Min-koo held talks with his U.S. counterpart Ashton Carter at the Pentagon on Thursday local time… and asked him to reconsider Seoul's request of four key technology transfers.
Carter said it will be difficult to grant Seoul's request but that the two countries can explore ways to increase technological cooperation.

Most of the radioactive water from the crippled Fukushima nuclear plant in Japan is expected to follow a current and spread into the Pacific Ocean.
Experts say that small amounts of the radioactive water could begin flowing into Korea as early as next year,. but they add that the effects will be minimal.
Kim Min-ji tells us more. The Kuroshio is a north-flowing ocean current on the western side of the North Pacific Ocean,. and its strongest impact is on Korea and Japan.
It flows from the Philippines and into the Korea Strait and northeastward past Japan.
This simulation,. created by a team of Korean and Chinese researchers,. shows the likely flow of radioactive water from the Fukushima nuclear plant in Japan,. as carried by the Kuroshio current.
"The radioactive water will merge with the strong currents of the Kuroshio and flow east. It could reach U.S. and Canadian waters in four to five years."
That's because the current eventually begins to flow towards the western waters of North America.
These waters then merge with the North Equatorial Current,. which later becomes the Kuroshio.
The total process takes about 10 years to complete.
This means that radioactive water from the Fukushima plant could begin flowing into Korean waters when the cycle is complete in 10 years.
Experts, however, say that contaminated water could begin leaking into Korea's southern seas and the East Sea as early as next year.
According to researchers,. small amounts of radioactive water are likely to slip from the outer parts of the Kuroshio to merge into other currents that flow towards Korea.
The amount, however, is miniscule,. at approximately 0-point-0-1 becquerels per unit area,. which is about one-two hundredths of the world's average.
"A small amount of radioactive water will flow into the Yellow and East Seas, however, the effects will be minimal."
The experts say that even if fish are exposed to the affected waters,. the small amount of radioactive water will still make fish safe to consume.
"Even if we consume fish that has been exposed to radioactive water,. the effect will be extremely minute. The amount is nothing to worry about."
However, others have raised concerns,. saying that continuous inspections and monitoring are required,. as the exact amount of radioactive water that has leaked into the ocean is unclear.
Kim Min-ji, Arirang News.

Local budget carriers become popular choice for air travelers

A decade has now passed since Korea launched it′s first low-cost carrier and the market is going from strength to strength.
It′s fair to say the budget carriers had some teething problems in the early stages,... but they′re thriving now... thanks to their cheap air fares and solid reputation for safety.
Kim Min-ji has more.
It′s been ten years since Jeju Air, Korea′s first low-cost carrier, got off the ground.
Despite some early setbacks, it wasn′t long before others Jin Air, t′way, Air Busan and Eastar jumped into the market.
Now they′ve become a popular choice for air travelers.
″Low-cost carriers have grown an average of six percent every year since 2010 to account for more than half of all domestic flights. Now their eyes are on boosting their presence on international routes.″
Currently, some carriers offer flights to popular travel destinations like Guam or Bangkok... and plans are in motion to even go as far as Hawaii.
Their success can be attributed to the low-cost factor.
Companies stripped away services, such as in-flight meals and amenities... like blankets and toiletries,... to keep prices as low as possible.
″I′m obviously using the service because it′s cheap. And this time round, I got an even better deal with a promotional discount.″
″I′m a student, so I was looking for cheap flights and came across this airline. I don′t really mind if they don′t offer conventional services because my trip is short.″
However, Korean consumers weren′t all that positive when budget airlines first launched as it was generally thought that cheap meant less safe.
Many carriers had small fleets comprised of older planes,... and with a packed flight schedule,... it was hard to keep up cabin maintenance.
″Although some may think, low-cost carriers may compromise safety for cheap fares, that′s not the case for us. We abide by the government′s safety regulations as well as international standards.″
Experts expect the low-cost airline boom to continue... as long as companies are able to adjust their strategies and stay ahead of aviation and tourism industry trends.
″It′s not like these budget carriers can deploy planes that can carry hundreds of people. So rather than focus on long-haul flights, they should focus on gaining competitiveness in short range flights to popular destinations in Asia.″
The local industry is forecast to grow three to four-fold over the next ten years.
Despite the projected explosion in growth,... experts say the government should support local budget carriers as foreign players have their eyes on the Korean market.

And the Westgate shopping mall in Kenya is set to reopen over the weekend, almost two years after more than 60 people were massacred in a killing spree.
Four gunmen barged into the mall fully loaded with grenades and guns and wreaked havoc... terrorizing shoppers and severely damaging the building.
Due to the incident many businesses saw massive losses... and a mall that was once a symbol of Kenya′s economic prosperity,... soon turned into a sign of the nation′s insecurity.
The tragedy was carried out by Somalia′s al-Shabaab militia in September 2013.
The Nairobi governor said that the city′s security had been improved to prepare for U.S President Barack Obama′s trip to the country later in the month.
Since the attack, al-Shabaab has carried a stream of attacks on Kenya.
Last November, gunmen hijacked a bus and killed over twenty people.
This brings the death total in Kenya to more than 400 over the past two years.
And that does it for your international news today... I′ll see you right back here tomorrow.

To keep its lead amid the rising competition in the global market,... more Korean shipbuilders are outfitting their vessels with ″smart″ functions.
What′s more... Korea has launched a new innovation center in the shipbuilding capital of Ulsan, just north of Busan.
Song Ji-sun reports.
The new center is aimed at revamping production lines to create ships that are both ″smart″ and eco-friendly.
The technology for both can now be loaded on to vessels weighing several hundred tons.
Korea is seeking to expand on innovations like these and turn them into growth engines for the economy,... while cementing its position in the global shipbuilding industry.
″The smart ship sector is projected to grow into a 53-billion dollar industry by 2020.
Like smartphones, smart ships require software based on creative ideas. The Ulsan center will provide an open platform for all engineers to take part in developing such programs a system first introduced to the world by Hyundai Heavy Industries.″
Korea built the world′s first smart ship in 2011 and has since landed contracts for 200 smart ships.
The first generation of smart ships could perform simple functions like navigation, monitoring and control.
But the next generation of ships will include the technology for automated shipping,... which is already in demand among ship operators because of the potential for reducing operating costs and saving fuel.
Korea′s three major shipbuilders Samsung Heavy Industries, Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering and Hyundai Heavy Industries,... the latter of which will be in charge of the new innovation center have a combined 25-hundred patents for building smart ships like these... and more.
In conjunction with the Ulsan center, they plan to share the patents with local startups and small and mid-sized companies seeking to develop similar software.
The center will also help turn shipyards into smart yards and help smaller firms enhance efficiency in their production lines through consultations with the large conglomerates.

North Korea's Kim Il Sung University received a visit by a former U.S. governor and Google's executive chairman... who are in Pyongyang for a controversial private visit.
Choi You-sun reports on their look into the regime's advances in technology. On the second day of their much-publicized trip to North Korea, Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt and former U.S. Governor Bill Richardson visited the prestigious Kim Il Sung University in Pyongyang.
There, the delegates observed students using the Google search engine and the online encyclopedia, Wikipedia.
The Seoul-based Northeast Asia Foundation for Education and Culture has given Arirang TV confirmation of an earlier report that the president of Pyongyang University for Science and Technology, Kim Chin-kyung, joined Schmidt's delegation on Monday.
Kim, an American citizen, helped found the university with the South Korean foundation and the North Korean education ministry in 2001.
He was reported to have been contacted by Google.
Kim will likely introduce Schmidt and his team to officials at the English-language university, which is known to be relatively open to the Internet and foreign media.
Meanwhile, there is speculation that Schmidt may offer some type of assistance to Pyongyang while trip organizer, former Governor Richardson..., negotiates the release of Kenneth Bae, a Korean-American detained in the North for an alleged crime against the state.
Although critical of timing of the trip, which comes less than a month after North Korea's UN-banned rocket launch, Washington did hint at an interest in the outcome of the visit.
The trip could also offer the returning Obama administration a peak into the Kim Jong-un regime's policy towards the U.S.

The second and final round of reunions for war-separated Korean families has come to a close.
After 65 years of separation... saying goodbye, again, was difficult for many of the participants... but it may be even harder for them to return to their daily lives.
Our unification ministry correspondent Song Ji-sun wraps up the event for us.
Sharing twelve hours together, over six sessions, could not have been enough.
Not knowing when,...or if they will ever... be able to see each other again, families from South and North Korea said goodbye to one another, sharing final words of hope before parting ways.
"We must meet again. I will stay strong and live long. You should be healthy too."
"I'll see you again on the day the two Koreas reunite."
But even on this last day, many North Korean participants managed their words and actions carefully,... fully aware of the authorities around them.
These cautious exchanges made families from the South even more sad... and added a layer of heaviness to the event.
"There's nothing to cry about. We are well and happy. Dont' worry at all."
"Let us meet freely Let us go across the border to visit each other "
Their wishes may come true... as the two Koreas have vowed to expand regular exchanges -- including letters and possibly a permanent channel for meetings.
A few more hurdles remain... before we may visibly see progress in expanding exchanges.
"Pyongyang cooperated actively and the reunion was a successful one.
But the two Koreas must hold governmental talks at an early date as possible to expand regular exchanges. The key factor in doing so, is how the two sides approach the matter of resuming tour program at Mount Kumgang."
Since the first reunion in 2000,... reunions reduced both in size and frequency after a South Korean tourist was shot by North Korean soldiers in 2008 at Mount Kumgang.
The tours stopped then... with Seoul placing sanctions on Pyongyang, limiting exchanges and aid.
Although the two made a leap through an agreement last August,... which made this round of reunions possible, more dialogue is needed to arrange further events.
Song Ji-sun, Arirang News.

The key term this year: the fourth industrial revolution.
What is it?
Our Kwon Jang-ho explains.
″Who feels that in the next 10 years, we will have first 3D printed cars in circulation? A majority. Who feels that in the next 10 years, you will not go anymore to a normal pharmacy but go to a robotic pharmacist?″
That′s Klaus Schwab, founder and chairman of the World Economic Forum addressing the opening plenary of the forum′s eighth Summit on the Global Agenda.
He′s referring to the new technology age dubbed the fourth industrial revolution.
″The fourth industrial revolution is the buzzword here at the Summit on the Global Agenda this year. It′s a new wave of technologies and innovations that will change all aspects of our lives... but what is it exactly?″
″This is really not a material revolution. It′s the first time that we are talking about an industrial revolution that is more about data than a physical entity where knowledge, literally data is the new oil.″
The new technological innovation is unprecedented in speed; it′s a combination of all previous innovations; its growth rate is exponential... which is why it is all the more important to swiftly come up with changes.
″Maybe there will be a fundamental change in economy. Instead of using GDP for example, we might use a different index like happiness index, sustainable index, and et cetera.″
The world′s brightest minds here say the important task now is to ensure that the fast pace of innovation is matched by agility... in setting rules, norms and standards for this evolving new world.

The World Health Organization has issued a report putting processed meat in the same risk category for causing cancer as smoking.
Experts found that eating a 50 gram portion of processed meat - that′s less than two slices of bacon - increases the risk of bowel cancer by almost 20 percent.
The findings mean the WHO now lists processed meat which includes hot dogs, ham and sausages as a cancer-causing substance along with alcohol, asbestos, arsenic and cigarettes.
Eating too much fresh red meat lamb, beef, pork and hamburgers is also deemed a risk.
The WHO says red meat is ″probably″ carcinogenic based on ″limited evidence″ it causes some cancers such as bowel, pancreatic and prostate cancers.

A powerful earthquake has killed at least two-hundred-20 people in Afghanistan and nearby northern Pakistan.
The seven-point-five magnitude quake was centered some two-hundred-50 kilometers northeast of Kabul.
Most of the deaths have been reported in northern Pakistan.
Officials say they expect the number of deaths to increase because communications were down in much of the inhospitable mountain range where the earthquake was centered.
Shockwaves were felt as far away as New Delhi, but no deaths were reported in India.

ARIRANG NEWS 06:00
Coming up today,.. President Park Geun-hye is set to deliver a speech at the National Assembly. She′s expected to lay out the government′s budget proposal for next year and urge lawmakers to pass economic and welfare-related bills.
There′s a big weekend of diplomacy ahead with a trilateral summit between South Korea, China and Japan set for this Sunday. Seoul suggests holding a one-on one summit with Japan next Monday.
Plus,.. more than two-hundred people have been confirmed dead after a powerful earthquake strikes a remote part of the Afghan-Pakistan border. Stay tuned for these stories and more.
Hello.... to our viewers around the world, it′s 6 a.m. on Tuesday, October twenty-seventh here in Seoul.
Thanks for joining us,... I′m Mark Broome.
Title: President Park to address National Assembly on Tuesday
Our top story this morning...
President Park Geun-hye will address the National Assembly in a few hours from now to explain the government′s budget plan and policy goals for next year.
The president is expected to call on lawmakers to swiftly pass a handful of bills related to economic revitalization and labor reform.
It′s unclear if President Park will raise the issue of reintroducing a state-issued, secondary-school history textbook.
It will be her third address to the National Assembly since taking office in 2013.
None of her predecessors have addressed the National Assembly more than once during their term, as it is the prime minister who traditionally does so.
Arirang TV will be bringing you a live coverage of the President′s speech live at 10A.M. Korea time,... that′s in a little under four hours from now.
Title: History textbook row heats up
The intensifying row over the government′s plans to reintroduce a state-authored history textbook to the nation′s secondary schools is preventing the country′s rival parties from getting anything done at the National Assembly.
Our Ji Myung-kil takes a look.
Criticizing the opposition′s all-out-efforts to halt the government′s plan for a state-authored secondary education history textbook, the ruling Saenuri Party is urging the opposition bloc to normalize parliamentary affairs.
"The golden time is running out to pass bills related to reviving the nation′s stagnant economy and stabilizing peoples′ livelihoods. The opposition should stop using the textbook as a political tool and come back to the negotiating table."
Floor Leader Won Yoo-chul also accused the main opposition New Politics Alliance for Democracy for raising allegations that the education ministry has formed a secret task force to deal with reintroducing the state-published textbook.
However, certain that the presidential office instructed the ministry to establish a secret task force, the NPAD vows to explore the matter.
"The education ministry says its just a normal taskforce team to support the government′s plan... but if we look into its duties... the team specializes

Hello, I am Lee Jee-hyun with your weather report
It started to rain from mid-afternoon in Seoul,... enough to break out the umbrella.
And as rain clouds keep moving into the peninsula we can expect more showers overnight.
Moderate rain is expected. Western coastal regions in Chungcheong-do Province will see 10 to 40 millimeters while the rest of the peninsula will get 5 to 30.... And it will continue through the morning commute so be sure take caution out on the roads.
This system will trigger cool air to sweep in over the peninsula, and cause highs to drop to seasonal averages.
On Tuesday, Seoul will kick off at 12 before getting up to 17, and Daegu and Gwangju will rise to 19 while Busan tops out at 21.
For other regions,
Daejeon and Dokdo will see a high of 17 and Jeju will reach 21.
With November just around the corner, it′s about time to get ready for chillier days to come.... More rain is expected on Thursday and on Saturday, the last day of October, we′ll feel the low drop to a near freezing 3 in Seoul.
That′s all for the weather, good night

China′s drawing up blueprints for economic and social development... and considering its clout.... Whatever changes it makes will have a major impact on the global economy.
But right now, we know little else aside from government officials opening up a meeting today to discuss reforms.
They are formulating another five-year-plan... during which China′s main focus will be to maintain seven percent growth.
As for now,... it looks like growth for this year... is going to fall below seven percent for the first time in 25 years.
According to data, China′s economy grew just under that mark in the third quarter compared to last year.
And... in part,... because China represents more than 30 percent of global GDP growth, analysts believe any target from the meeting below seven percent would send markets and projections around the world tumbling.
When the highly secretive meeting ends Thursday,... state news agency Xinhua′s going to release a long comunique.
Until then, investors will be holding their breaths.

The European Union and some Balkan states have agreed on a plan to temporarily shelter 100-thousand refugees.
Our Sohn Jung-in has more on the massive influx of refugees into Europe. Thousands of refugees continue their journey toward Western Europe by crossing into Croatia from Slovenia.
This is their new route after Hungary closed its borders last month.
Wrapped in blankets in a bid to protect themselves against freezing temperatures, those making the journey say it′s a tough route and that there′s no food or water in the camps they stop at.
″It′s too much cold. It′s too bad, nobody...if you want to stay, you can′t stay, it′s better to walk to this way, because it′s too danger.″
EU and Balkan leaders came together at a hastily-arranged emergency summit in Brussels to seek ways to ease the plight of refugees making the grueling journey across the Balkans to reach Germany and other wealthy EU countries.
″Europe is at stake now, and if we don′t do all we can together to find a common solution and to deliver it, then this is the beginning of the end of the EU.″
The leaders agreed on the need to take stronger measures to protect refugees and to increase security along the EU′s borders with the western Balkans.
Some pointed out the meeting′s lack of effectiveness as Turkey, which is the starting point for most of the migrants, was absent from the talks.
Sohn Jung-in, Arirang News.
The placement of refugees is part of a 17-point-plan devised at the emergency meeting. Reception centers will be built from Greece along the route towards Germany.
And that′s a glimpse of the world today. Have a great night.

Now for international headlines, we turn to Bruce Harrison in the newscenter. Rescue operations are underway in Afghanistan and neighboring countries... after a massive quake struck the region. There are reports that dozens of people are dead.
Hello Daniel.... It′s still unclear how many have died.
The BBC reports at least 40 people were killed in Pakistan and about 20 in Afghanistan.
The quake struck in remote area of northeastern Afghanistan today.
A handful of people died in the capital Kabul,... and at least 12 students at a school for girls were killed in a different province.
In Islamabad, people say the ground shook beneath them as they tried to find cover.
″I went to the back of the ambulance thinking that someone was shaking the vehicle but there was no one there. Then I looked at the house in front of me, and it was literally quivering. I started reciting the Holy Koran.″
The death toll could continue to climb since communications are still down in some remote areas.
Yonhap News reports no one was injured at Korean embassies in Afghanistan, Pakistan and India.

Korea′s two Ultra High-Definition, or UHD TV makers,.... Samsung and LG Display,... are continuing to dominate the global market while reaching a new record in shipments.
Our Shin Se-min tells us more.
Korea′s two leading panel makers are stepping up the competition,… aiming to further expand their dominance in the global UHD panel market.
A report from IHS Technology, a global industry tracker, shows that Samsung Display took the lead in the Ultra HD panels market in the third quarter, shipping out over three-point-six million units,… outpacing its rival LG Display that nabbed a little over 31-percent of the entire market.
Combine the two,… global shipments of UHD TV panels topped over eleven-and-a-half million units in the July-to-September period,… posting above the ten-million mark for the first time.
The figures are an advancement of nearly 80-percent on-year,… and are also up 25-percent compared to the previous quarter.
A Taiwan-based panel maker took third place,… and China′s BOE Technology placed fourth on the list with nearly 14-percent of the market share.
Watchers say more affordable models have helped expand the UHD TV panel market,… leading to record shipments.
And it′s likely that the Korean manufacturers will retain the lead as top sellers for some time.
″Even with Chinese manufacturers chasing after Korea′s leading brands like Samsung and LG,… without their own technical skills,… it′s going to be tough to pump out a massive number of UHD panels.″
In the third quarter, LG Display, the largest display panel maker in the world posted rather disappointing results,… with operating profit falling 30-percent on-year,… largely because of a fall in panel prices.
But despite a small bump in that quarter,… the OLED UHD TV market is still dominated by LG Electronics and LG Display,…as China and Japan, some of the world′s largest TV markets are poised for more growth.
Market watchers are optimistic that Korean makers′ market domination will expand even more,... as those firms currently excel in skills needed for mass production.

When it comes to hackers, there are two types, those who try to circumvent security and break into networks,… and ethical computer hackers or ′white hats′ who try to improve security.
Connie Kim shows how Korea aims to better find, foster and promote more of the latter through a competition.
In 2014 hackers accessed Sony Pictures′ computers releasing thousands of emails, documents and other personal information in an attempt to stop the comedy ′The Interview′ being released.
Last winter, hackers threatened to release thousands of pages of data about Korea′s nuclear power plants, and too conduct cyberattacks unless Korea shut down three of its reactors.
″Cyber security is more important now than ever, but Korea is at a low tier when it comes to raising ethical computer hackers, or so called ′white hat′ hackers.
Korea is trying to foster these white hats by holding hacking competitions like this and selecting the best.″
A total of 10 individuals and teams that devised the most efficient policies and technology to track down hackers,... and those who came up with solutions to hacking simualtions the fastest were awared prizes.
One of the prize winners says the hardest part during the competition was an indiscriminate virus attack.
″The simulation system was designed to launch an attack into our computer server every thirty minutes. It was challenging, but our studies in the hacking field paid off.″
The selected technology and policies will be utilized in cyber warfare research and development to better deal with Korea′s growing cyber security threats.
″We aim to promote this hacking competition and discover the most outstanding white hat hackers″
Individuals interested in anti-hacking systems also took part,...getting a chance to try out the newest simulations and meeting professional white hats to help resolve ′unresolved′ questions in the large field of hacking.
Promoting and raising awareness of these specialized hackers, the country aims to have five thousand additional white hats by 2017.

Sponsored by Korea′s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two-day, Korea-Middle East Cooperation Forum ended its 12th meeting on Monday in Seoul.
Lee Ji-won tells us more about the gathering for academics and others to hold deep discussions and provide insights into issues affecting their respective geographic regions.
″The international community expects a more active role from European and the Middle Eastern countries in dealing with North Korea.″
This is what Professor Jang Ji-hyang says about how the Middle East can play an important role in the Korean peninsula.
Professor Jang adds that Iran′s nuclear deal does not have direct impact on North Korea′s denuclearization as they have different domestic power structures and economies...
North Korea is too poor and closed to be affected by economic pressure from outside.
However, she says that some Middle Eastern organizations such as Hamas illegally trade with North Korea, which helps the North.
Thus she stressed greater help from the Middle East nations is needed.
After three presentations on the regional challenges in the Middle East and Korea, three renowned professors and a senator began debating the issues.
This is what was discussed during the first session of the 12th Korea-Middle East Cooperation Forum in Seoul on Monday.
The annual event, co-hosted by Korea-Arab Society, the Jeju Peace Institute, and the Arab Thought Forum, seeks to exchange in-depth opinions and analysis on how to further strengthen the relationships and develop networking among the leaders.
This year′s forum largely focused on current issues such as the refugee crisis and youth unemployment under the theme ′Partnership for Peace, Prosperity and People′.
Korea′s Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se gave the keynote speech highlighting the importance of this year′s topics and on expanding the horizons of Korea-Middle East cooperation.
″The morning sessions were followed by two more sessions on the economy and society, covering crucial topics including maximizing financial cooperation between Korea and the Middle East at a time of falling oil prices and high, youth unemployment.

China′s Premier, Li Keqiang, arrives in Seoul this Saturday for a planned trilateral summit with Korea and Japan... even when the date for that three way meeting is not yet confirmed.
This will be Li′s first visit to Korea since taking office in 2013.
Hwang Sung-hee reports.
The main purpose of Premier Li Keqiang′s visit is to attend the planned trilateral Korea-Japan-China summit.
The presidential office of Cheong Wa Dae said Monday that Li will arrive in Seoul on Saturday for a three-day stay.
On the summit sidelines, Li will hold bilateral talks with President Park on Saturday to discuss Korea-China ties along with regional and global issues.
He will also meet with the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Prime Minister, and business leaders.
The date for the trilateral summit has not been confirmed, but November 1st is the most likely date with Japanese media reporting the leaders will hold their first summit in more than three years this Sunday at Korea′s presidential office.
But what about the much-anticipated bilateral meeting between President Park and her Japanese counterpart?
A presidential office official says Korea has proposed to hold the meeting on Monday, November 2nd, and is waiting for Japan′s answer.
However, both sides still seem uncertain about the agenda for the meeting between President Park and Shinzo Abe.
The Japanese daily Sankei Shimbun reported Monday that Korea is pushing for an apology from Prime Miniser Abe about Japan′s wartime sexual enslavement of Korean women.
This, while Japan wants a no strings attached summit.

North Korea and China have reportedly agreed to move forward with a long-stalled plan for a special administrative zone in the northwestern region of the communist state.
For details we turn to Oh Soo-young. After thirteen years of nothing much, North Korea and China have once again agreed to start co-developing Sinuiju, a special administrative region in North Korea.
According to a government source in Seoul, the two countries have agreed to resume plans to set up a capitalistic-style economic zone, modeled after Hong Kong and Macau.
The project was initially conceived in 2002 by North Korea′s former leader Kim Jong-il, to experiment with a market economy and to attract foreign investment.
However, the plan was later abandoned when a Chinese-born businessman appointed as the region′s governor was arrested in China for tax evasion.
But now, the project seems to be back on track after Liu Yunshan ,.. a senior Chinese official,... attended celebrations in Pyongyang this month, marking 70 years of North Korea′s ruling Workers′ Party,
According to the plans, a canal will be built across the Sinuiju region, creating Northern and Southern districts, with residential areas and public infrastructure on each side.
Ten bridges will arch over the canal,... which will be used for shipping goods and industrial water management.
Six mobile communication base stations will also be installed by the two partner countries.
Total investment in Sinuiju is expected to reach four-hundred billion U.S. dollars.

President Park Geun-hye will address the National Assembly on Tuesday to explain the government′s budget plan and policy goals for next year.
It will be her third address to the National Assembly since taking office in 2013.
None of her predecessors have addressed the National Assembly more than once during their term, as it is the prime minister who traditionally does so.
The President is expected to call on lawmakers to swiftly pass a handful of bills related to economic revitalization and labor reform.
It′s unclear if President Park will raise the issue of reintroducing a state-issued, secondary-school history textbook.
You can catch the President′s speech live on Arirang TV at 10-A.M. Korea time on Tuesday.

Showing no signs of reaching a compromise and getting back to their legislative work, rival parties continue playing ping-pong over a planned state-authored history textbook
Ji Myung-kil zooms in on the ongoing see-saw battle.
Criticizing the opposition′s all-out-efforts to halt the government′s plan for a state-authored secondary education history textbook, the ruling Saenuri Party is urging the opposition bloc to normalize parliamentary affairs.
″The golden time is running out to pass bills related to reviving the nation′s stagnant economy and stabilizing peoples′ livelihoods. The opposition should stop using the textbook as a political tool and come back to the negotiating table.″
″The education ministry says its just a normal taskforce team to support the government′s plan... but if we look into its duties... the team specializes in filing daily reports to the presidential office and monitors the media over history textbook issues.″
The NPAD also insists on hosting an open forum with the ruling bloc and President Park Geun-hye to look into the current textbooks, page-by-page, to determine if they do contain left-leaning content and distorted descriptions of history.
With government approval, eight private companies publish Korea′s secondary school history textbooks. Primary schools have a single set of state-authored textbooks.

Title: Pres. Park calls for confidence to overcome economic crisis
President Park Geun-hye has met with members of her economic affairs advisory committee.
She stressed that maintaining confidence is key... for Korea to take another leap forward.
Hwang Sung-hee reports.
President Park said that with the confidence it showed during its economic development, Korea can turn the current crisis into an opportunity.
Speaking to her economic advisors on Wednesday, the President recalled the Saemaul Movement an initiative that led the modernization of Korea′s rural economy in the 1970s , noting that it has since become a policy that contributes to international prosperity.
The OECD and the UNDP recently decided to benchmark the Korean initiative for developing nations.
President Park also noted China′s efforts for building a consumption-driven economy.
This greatly affects Korea, as China accounts for a quarter of its exports.
Despite the changes, the Korean leader said China still offers diverse opportunities... adding that Seoul should not only bolster efforts to stay ahead of its neighbor... but also find ways to grow together.
Referring to the seventeen creative economy innovation centers across the country, the President called for the need to provide all-out support for fresh ideas proposed by each center, adding that unjustified regulations must be lifted.
The centers offer workspace, funding and advice to start-ups and are part of the government′s drive to ease economic reliance on conglomerates.
"President Park said that through such regulatory reform, Korea could produce another development model like the Saemaul Movement to help contribute to the improvement of other countries.
Hwang Sung-hee, Arirang News."

Title: Trade ministers reach agreement on TPP
Trade negotiators have reached an agreement on what′s considered the world′s largest free trade pact,... as it accounts for 40 percent of the global economy.
Once ratified,... the Trans-Pacific Partnership will remove trade barriers for twelve countries,... including the U.S., Canada and Japan.
So... how big a deal is the TPP?
Kim Min-ji has our top story.
They′re calling it a historic agreement.
After five years of talks, trade negotiators from 12 countries have struck a deal that will reduce tariffs on almost 18-thousand categories, ranging from automobiles to food,... and set standards for labor and the environment in the trade bloc.
"We have come to an agreement that will support jobs, drive sustainable growth, foster inclusive development, and promote innovation across the Asia-Pacific region."
The trade pact, called the Trans-Pacific Partnership, or TPP,... involves the US, Japan, Malaysia, Vietnam and eight other Pacific Rim countries,... which together account for about 40 percent of the global economy.
It is the largest trade pact ever,... making up for more than a quarter of the world′s trade volume,... and covers a combined population of almost 800 million.
Supporters of the deal say the agreement will facilitate higher paying jobs,... as well as boost productivity and competitiveness and raise living standards in member countries.
Some also see it as a way to counter a rising China,... which is not a member of the agreement,... and paves the way to open new markets for American companies.
However, critics have not been happy about negotiations they say have been overly secretive in nature,... and argue that the trade deal will benefit large corporations and shift more jobs overseas.
Although the deal has been concluded, this is just the first step in what is likely to be a long road ahead as the participating countries take the deal back to their governments for approval.

Title: President Park, Abe to hold summit on Nov. 2
President Park Geun-hye and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will hold their first summit on the sidelines of a trilateral meeting with China in Seoul.
Will it serve as more than just an ice-breaker between the two leaders?
Few think so.
Hwang Sung-hee reports.
For the first time since taking office, President Park will hold summit talks with her Japanese counterpart, Shinzo Abe.
The two leaders will meet next Monday in Seoul to discuss a range of sensitive issues.
"The two leaders are expected to exchange in-depth opinions about pending bilateral issues, including the issue of the comfort women."
More than 200-thousand women, mostly Korean, were forced to serve the Japanese military during World War Two.
Korea wants a sincere apology and compensation for the aging victims, although Japan claims that this was settled through a 1965 bilateral pact and a private fund.
The issue has kept the two leaders wide apart for more than two and a half years.
But there is little hope for any progress in their bilateral ties, with the two leaders not even taking the time to dine together.
"There are no plans to hold a luncheon. This has been settled through discussions between Korea and Japan."
Some say the summit will be no more than just a token meeting on the sidelines of a meeting with China.
"Despite few expecting real gains from the meeting between President Park and Prime Minister Abe, it comes as Seoul hosts its first trilateral summit in over three years with Beijing and Tokyo on Sunday... And from this, the three leaders are expected to adopt a joint statement outlining their commitment to continued three-way cooperation, even though relations with Japan may remain somewhat strained..

Title: Samsung Electronics′ Q3 profit jumps on chip sales, currency effects
Samsung Electronics saw its operating profit jump more than 80 percent in the third quarter from the year before,... driven by strong chip sales and a pick up in its mobile business.
Kim Min-ji starts us off.
Samsung Electronics′ third quarter figures show the tech giant′s earnings are on an upswing.
The company had an operating profit of about 6-point-5 billion U.S. dollars in the July-to-September period,... up 82 percent from a year ago.
Sales rose almost nine percent,... while net profit also climbed nearly 30 percent during the same period.
"Currency conditions were favorable in the third quarter. In addition, lower production costs for semiconductors,... and strong demand for chips and the OLED displays used for new smartphones helped drive up the earnings momentum."
Samsung′s chip business, which has been the company′s cash cow,... posted an operating profit of 3-point-2 billion dollars in quarter three,... setting a new record.
Its bottom line also got a boost to the tune of about 700 million dollars,... thanks to the Korean won′s weakness against the U.S. dollar.
Samsung′s IT and mobile division, which has been weighing on earnings,... posted an operating profit of 2-point-1 billion dollars an improvement from last year, but still down slightly from the second quarter.
Price cuts on new Galaxy S6 smartphones,... released before new Apple products... in a bid to avoid direct competition, pushed up the number of handsets sold,... but the lower average sale price ate into the company′s overall profit.
"Analysts aren′t so optimistic about Samsung′s performance in the fourth quarter. They say earnings will likely decline, facing stiffer competition with Apple′s new products and seasonally lower demand for components."

The Korean economy recorded its highest growth rate since the second quarter of 2010, thanks in part to strong domestic consumption and the government′s supplementary budget.

Questions thrown revolved around proposed changes to history textbooks and failure to obtain key fighter jet technologies from the U.S.
It′s 10pm on a Friday here in Korea.
Welcome to Prime Time News, I′m Daniel Choy.
Title: Korea′s GDP growth hits 5-year high in Q3
We start with some welcome news for the Korean economy.
The central bank says Korea′s third-quarter GDP growth hit a five-year high as domestic demand offset sluggish exports.
Shin Se-min takes a closer look at whether the positive upswing can continue.
The Korean economy grew one-point-two percent on-quarter in the July-to-September period.
That′s the highest growth rate since the second quarter of 2010 and the FIRST time in six quarters for the rate to top one percent.
On-year, the country′s gross domestic product grew two-point-six percent.
The Bank of Korea credited a solid rebound in domestic consumption and a pick-up in government spending for the overall growth.
"Government efforts to reinvigorate spending,… like cutting consumption tax and a fiscal stimulus package, including an extra budget plan,... had a positive effect on the third quarter figures."
And that trend is likely to continue,… at least until the end of this year.
"With the consumption tax cut, scheduled to last until the end of this year,… added with the government′s supplementary budget,… the economy will likely maintain its one-percent growth throughout the fourth quarter."
And that′s without the help of the country′s outbound shipments.
Exports, making up half the country′s economy, were down zero-point-two percent during the third quarter due to sluggish global demand coupled with a slowdown in China.
"The central bank said the strong comeback in the third quarter is a sign that the economy is on a recovery track. However, experts remain concerned,… as the current pace of growth cannot be sustained by domestic demand alone…highlighting the need for improved exports.
Shin Se-min, Arirang News."

In the hotseat before lawmakers were officials at the Presidential Office of Cheong Wa Dae.
Questions thrown revolved around proposed changes to history textbooks and failure to obtain key fighter jet technologies from the U.S.

Title: U.S. Federal Reserve leaves key interest rate unchanged
Let′s begin with the highly-anticipated economic news out of the U.S.
The Federal Reserve has decided to keep its benchmark interest rate unchanged at near zero... citing slow inflation growth.
Kwon Soa has the details.
The speculation is over...for now at least.
The U.S. Central bank froze its key interest rate Thursday,... following a two-day policy meeting... with only one out of 10 committee members opposing the move.
This despite the U.S. economy on a recovery track through robust spending and declining unemployment.
Fed chairwoman Janet Yellen said she expects the U.S. economy to continue to perform well,... but that recent global market volatility and other factors are delaying.... what would be.... the first rate hike in a decade.
"Inflation, however, has continued to run below our longer run objective, partly reflecting declines in energy and import prices."
Yellen said a rate lift-off will come when there is more confidence of inflation rising to... two percent,... the previous target of the central bank.
U.S. inflation currently stands at around 1-point-2 percent.
Analysts say,... the U.S. also had to consider effects on developing countries,... as a hike would have crushed the purchasing power of developing nations.
"If we have the emerging markets starting to struggle and we′re not able to export goods and we′re not able to create some sort of global inflation by a growing economy around it, that′s going to be trouble for the U.S. economy as well."
Experts say the Fed′s decision has lifted uncertainties for now,... in those emerging markets,... including Korea... which dealt with a lot of foreign capital outflow in recent weeks.
"Even if the interest rate increases later on,... it will happen gradually... So, Korea won′t be affected that much."
There was positive reaction to the freeze in most Asian stock markets Friday,... including Korea′s benchmark Kospi and tech-heavy Kosdaq... while U.S. and European stock markets saw some setbacks.
Korea′s central bank chief said there could be a chance of a U.S. hike in October or December... with questions remaining on whether Korea will also raise its key interest rate this year.

President Park Geun-hye has left for the United States for a 4-day trip.
She will meet her U.S. counterpart, stop by the Pentagon and NASA.
For a run-down of her schedule,... we turn to Hwang Sung-hee.
Sending a strong message against North Korea′s nuclear ambitions will top the agenda for Friday′s summit talks.
In a meeting with her chief secretaries on Tuesday, President Park said the summit will be an opportunity to strengthen cooperation against North Korea′s nuclear development and provocations.
In their fourth summit talks, President Park and President Obama are also expected to discuss measures for a stronger alliance.
The meeting comes ahead of a trilateral summit between South Korea, China and Japan... and follows President Park′s meeting with her Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping last month, and a summit between Xi and Obama.
"The South Korea-U.S. summit is expected to be a meaningful opportunity to exchange in-depth opinions on securing and expanding regional peace cooperation in Northeast Asia."
Ahead of Friday′s summit, President Park will visit the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center... to strengthen bilateral cooperation on space issues.
The South Korean leader will also make a rare visit to the Pentagon, as a measure to reaffirm their strong military alliance.
She will then attend a luncheon hosted by U.S. Vice President Joe Biden... and meet with U.S. officials and academics to explain South Korea′s diplomatic policies.

Title: President Park, opposition party remain divided on textbook issue
We start with a rare meeting between President Park Geun-hye and the leaders of Korea′s rival political parties.
All pending issues including the dispute on state history textbooks were put on the table.
Hwang Sung-hee reports.
The clash point at Thursday′s talks was the government′s push to reintroduce state-issued history textbooks.
"President Park and other participants of the meeting agreed on the need for correct history education but showed a difference of opinion regarding government authorization."
It was the first meeting in seven months for President Park and the leaders from the two rival political parties.
The government wants state history textbooks for secondary schools to eliminate left-leaning contents in existing books.
On the other hand, the opposition party claims this is an attempt to beautify pro-Japan activities during the colonial era and the military dictatorships decades ago.
"President Park expressed disappointment that efforts for a correct history textbook have turned into a political issue and stressed the need for a correct and proud history textbook for the sake of national unity.
President Park′s other agenda items included ratifying Korea′s free trade agreements with China, Vietnam and New Zealand, passing key bills related to labor reform, economic revitalization and next year′s budget,... as well as inter-Korean affairs.
She said Korea′s trade deal with China must come into effect within this year, as a day′s delay is too costly for Korean exporters.
Addressing the reunions for war-separated families, President Park said the event should be held on a regular basis and vowed to expand humanitarian exchanges between the two Koreas.

Title: No signs of ′imminent′ rocket launch detected in N. Korea: S. Korean official
There′s growing concern that North Korea could launch a long-range rocket next month.
Despite such speculations, a South Korean government official says an imminent launch is... unlikely.
Connie Kim has our top story.
There are no signs yet of an imminent rocket launch in North Korea, despite widespread speculation the regime is preparing to conduct a launch next month to mark a key anniversary.
A senior South Korean government official said Thursday that there hasn′t been any activity to suggest a launch at North Korea′s Tongchang-ri missile launch site, nor has there been an increase in facility or personnel movement from last year.
He said, however, a cover has been installed over the launch pad,... which could be used to hide preparations,... and the area around the launch site has been cleared.
This comes after senior officials at North Korea′s new satellite control center told CNN in an exclusive interview on Wednesday... that a rocket launch is "imminent."
South Korean government and military officials say they are closely monitoring any unusual activity at the launch site.
The officials say if North Korea were to conduct a launch to coincide with the 70th anniversary of its ruling Workers′ Party on October 10th, they would expect the North to transfer the rocket to the launch site by the end of this month.
Rocket assembly and fuel injection are estimated to take about a week.
In addition, South Korean government authorities say if a rocket is launched, it will use an upgraded engine that′s similar to the one used for its last satellite launch in late 2012.
Experts predict the rocket could carry a payload into orbit that′s five times heavier than the previously launched satellite.

The National Election Commission is having a hard time fixing the number of local election districts that will be up for grabs in next April′s parliamentary elections.
Ji Myung-kil reports on a possible shifting of the political landscape in Korea.
The redistricting committee under Korea′s election watchdog continues to debate over the readjustment of electoral constituencies for next year′s general election.
What we know is that the number of districts will be at least 244,... but no more than 249.
Currently, 246 constituencies and 54 non-electoral seats compose the 300-seat unicameral Korean legislature.
When the NEC announces the readjusted electoral map... the National Assembly′s special committee on Political Reform will vote on whether to adopt the proposal.
The main point of contention between rival parties is whether or not to retain the status-quo on non-electoral seats.
The ruling Saenuri Party wants to reduce the number of seats selected through proportional representation and add more rural seats.
"If we go with the main opposition′s demands to expand proportional representation, it′s inevitable that rural regions will lose seats... and be underrepresented."
However, the main opposition New Politics Alliance for Democracy claimed proportional representation is a constitutional tool that allows the socially vulnerable and professionals to enter politics.
"We need to expand the proportional representation because it helps the vulnerable and contributes to balance regional development."
25 lawmakers representing rural regions have demanded the NEC committee′s plan to be scrapped, but the committee plans to submit a final proposal to parliament by October 13th.
Rival parties hope to finalize the redrawing of electoral districts before the current regular session ends in December.

Title: President Park calls on lawmakers to pass economy-related bills
At the National Assembly, President Park Geun-hye delivered a lengthy speech on the government′s budget plan and pending national issues.
She also focused on the history textbook issue which is arguably the biggest source of friction between rival parties.
Hwang Sung-hee reports.
President Park laid out the government′s budget plan and policy goals for next year in her speech before the National Assembly on Tuesday.
But she also had other objectives in mind, including urging lawmakers to swiftly pass a handful of key bills.
"Key bills on economic revitalization aimed at boosting our economy and creating jobs for young people have been sitting at the National Assembly for years."
One is a bill aimed at improving the service industry, which has been held up at the National Assembly for three years.
The president said a competitive service industry could create as many as 690-thousand jobs.
She also emphasized how costly a slow ratification of Korea′s free trade agreements could be for exporters.
"As for the Korea-China FTA, we will lose 4 billion dollars in export opportunities per day if the ratification is delayed."
She also used the speech to address the controversial issue of state history textbooks.
The government wants a single state-authorized history textbook for secondary schools to eliminate what it characterizes as left-leaning content in existing books.
President Park addressed the opposition party′s concerns on the issue.
"There are concerns that the state history textbooks will distort or beautify history but I, myself, will not sit idle if that kind of textbook is published."
But whether the remarks were enough to win over opposition lawmakers on the controversial issue remains to be seen.

This comes amid the looming possibility of another North Korean rocket launch.

In a meeting with her senior secretaries, President Park emphasized peaceful reunification as a fundamental key to denuclearizing North Korea.
Concerns of another provocation by the North have grown in recent weeks as the regime has hinted at the possibility it could carry out a rocket launch to mark an upcoming, key political anniversary.
Reiterating the message she delivered to the U.N. General Assembly late last month, the president pointed out... although reunification efforts must be led by both Koreas, support and cooperation from the international community are also vital.
In line with her policy, the president vowed boosted diplomatic efforts for reunification.
To further stabilize the country, President Park said financial sector reform was also needed.
Citing a World Economic Forum report, she said the sector was dragging down the nation′s overall competitiveness.
"Financial sector reform can no longer be delayed. Old policies and practices must be replaced with competition and innovation."
She called for measures to deregulate the industry, such as lowering barriers for internet-based banks to enter the banking sector and diversifying banking options for consumers.
The president, meanwhile, steered clear of the Saenuri Party′s dispute on a new candidate nomination system ahead of next year′s general elections,... which has created a division between her loyalists and the ruling party′s chairman Kim Moo-sung.

Day 3 of President Park Geun-hye′s visit to the United States.

FIFA provisionally suspends Sepp Blatter for 90 days much to the delight of FIFA presidential candidate Chung Mong-joon who was revving up to take a shot at Blatter for trying to bring Chung down, but the Korean former FIFA vice president is slapped with a 6 year ban.
The final list of people who signed up to meet family members they′ve been disconnected from since the Korean War is submitted.
Less than 200 out of more than 60-thousand members of war-torn families will get the chance to take part in the event.
The primary suspect of the Itaewon Burger King murder of 1997, who fled the country, was extradited to Korea and appeared before the Seoul Central District Court today.
Hello... and welcome to Prime Time News... on this Thursday, October 8th.

Thanks for joining us.
Title: Chung suspended for 6 years, Blatter for 90 days.
We begin with the latest in scandals surrounding FIFA.
Sepp Blatter′s name was of course making headlines.
Unfortunately it affects Korea′s Chung Mong-joon′s chances of running for presidency of the football governing body.
We connect to our Lee Ji-won.
Ji-won, what′s the latest?
The adjudicatory chamber of the Ethics Committee suspended former FIFA vice-president Chung Mong-joon for six-years and fined him with 103-thousand U.S. dollars ...while FIFA president, Sepp Blatter is provisionally banned for 90-days.
Both of them will be banned from all football activities.
This would mean Chung will not be able to run for the presidency for which he has to register by October 26th.
Earlier on Thursday, Chung′s spokesman told Arirang TV on the phone that they′re planning an appeal within the next two days.
"We will take all possible measures to take this matter including legal actions and we firmly believe that international community will support our actions with common sense."
Another presidential candidate Michel Platini, president of the Union of European Football Associations has also been implicated in this scandal.
Does this mean he has absolutely no shot at his FIFA dreams?
No... together with Blatter, he and the secretary general, Jerome Valcke have also been banned for 90 days.
Platini is accused of receiving "disloyal payment" of about 2 million U.S. dollars from Blatter in 2011. During the three months time, investigations will continue and the suspension may be extended by a further 45 days.
I′m sure football fans began fuming as soon as they heard the latest development.
But for those who might be new to the FIFA fiasco, could you backtrack a little bit?
Chung Mong-joon, who′s also the honorary president of the Korean Football Association, was accused of vote trading for writing a letter to FIFA executive members in 2010... explaining Korea′s World Cup bid committee′s plans to raise a Global Football Fund if Korea were to host 2022 World Cup.

Despite hopes that historical issues could top the agenda at the upcoming the Korea-Japan summit.... experts warn not to get one′s hopes up... while assuring both sides have much to gain from the talks.

Title: President Park seeking to resolve wartime sex slavery issue this year
President Park Geun-hye has reiterated calls for Japan to resolve the issue of its wartime sexual enslavement of Korean women.
She has told Japanese media outlets... she wants the issue resolved before the end of the year.
Her remarks come a matter of days ahead of her first one-on-one summit with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
Hwang Sung-hee reports.
President Park wants the issue of Japan′s wartime sexual enslavement of Korean women resolved by the end of the year.
That′s what she told Japanese dailies the Asahi Shimbun and the Mainichi Shimbun in a written interview.
It′s the first time the president has set a deadline on the issue, which has become the thorniest subject between the two neighbors.
More than 200-thousand women, mostly Korean, were forced to serve the Japanese military before and during World War Two.
Time is running out for the elderly victims... as only 47 remain in Korea.
President Park said it′s important for the Japanese government to swiftly come up with measures acceptable to the victims... and that such measures will be proposed at the upcoming summit.
She added that the past cannot be resolved by denial... and expressed hope it will no longer stand in the way of their bilateral relations.
Addressing Japan′s newly acquired right to collective self-defense, President Park urged Tokyo to maintain transparent defense policies.
There are concerns Japan′s military could enter the Korean Peninsula even without Seoul′s consent in the event of a contingency with North Korea.
She also touched upon Seoul′s interest in joining the twelve-nation Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal... which includes Japan and the United States.
Hwang Sung-hee, Arirang News.
Title: What can Korea and Japan take away from the summit?
The trafficking of Korean women by the Japanese military may be a chronic, thorny issue.
But experts say both Seoul and Tokyo are intent on improving relations at the upcoming bilateral summit.
Kwon Jang-Ho looks into what the two sides hope to gain from the talks.
